As each year comes to an end, we're naturally drawn to reflection. And as I sit here writing this, there's one word that feels like it kept showing up in 2023 and one I want to keep leaning into in 2024: change.
From both a personal and professional perspective, I've learned to embrace change - and I'm not usually one to feel good about change! But this year I really do - and a lot of it is thanks to you all.
...so let's start with welcoming change!
Change is one of the hardest things for me to accept. I am a creature of habit and I like knowing what's next. This year I embraced change. My oldest boy started college, and I learned to navigate what that meant to me personally and to our relationship, too. Change also meant saying goodbye to a few people and things that no longer align with my values. I've learned change can be a good thing after all.
15 Years in Business
In March we celebrated 15 years in business! I have the biggest gratitude for you all - I can't believe what started as a side-gig for me has now turned into a well-loved brand surrounded by a community we are so proud to serve. We've continued to grow and evolve but our mission to help customers see the joy in the most mundane moments and freeze the special memories with their loved ones, continues to be our guiding principle.
Meaningful Partnerships
I love partnerships! We had a few of them this year., and they never cease to reinvigorate me.
We partnered with a wonderful company, the Shinery - specializing in safe and natural jewelry cleaners that work. We are excited to continue offering our customers the best not only in fine jewelry but also ways to care for it.
Earlier this month, I hosted a workshop at Ulla Johnson at their flagship store on Bleecker street. I couldn't have asked for a better partner and space to host this event. One of the best parts of having my business, has been the connections that I've made with other business owners, my community and with myself through creativity. Being in community with people, having fun and being creative makes me feel so good.
One-Of-A-Kind Heirlooms
At the beginning of this year we announced that we have discontinued sterling silver on our jewelry line. As we continue to elevate our brand in the high end, fine jewelry space, we remain committed to offering the best in custom jewelry. This year we released some stunning one-of-a-kind heirloom products in our Pavé Diamond Jewelry Collection. We have big plans for 2024 and are excited to share with you some new ways to turn your memories into keepsakes.
Making Time to Play
This year I committed to one day a week of creative play. After reading The Creative Act - A Way of Being, I realized how important it is to keep my creative spirit alive and flourishing. Each week looks a little different and is meant to allow me time to focus my energy on something that inspires me and doesn't necessarily has to be work related.
Examples of my creative play dates: spending 1 hour sketching new product ideas or things that inspire me recently, dreaming up a special collection, reading a few chapters of a good book, listening to a good podcast episode, going on a lunch date with a friend, visiting a local shop, picking up the phone and having a heart to heart chat with a friend.
What I've realized is that these play dates don't have to be elaborate or planned out far in advance. In the contrary, the more spontaneous they are, the more I've come to enjoy them. I look forward to them. They have become a non-negotiable for me.
In Person Connections
I love meeting customers, brand loyalists in person and hear their stories. Some of the best ideas come to me from these connections. We planned more pop ups this year meeting customers (new and existing) in various cities. I look forward to continuing this in 2024.
Growing Smarter not Harder
Last month I made the decision to hire a fractional marketing team (something I've been wanting to do for a while now) and it's already proved to be one of the best decisions. And the best part? When the opportunity presented itself, I just went for it. I knew if I was going to continue to be the visionary of this brand, I needed to start delegating some of the tasks that no longer aligned with that role. I am so happy and look forward to an amazing year ahead.
A New Creative Space
I am thrilled to announce that we will be moving into a new space in Richmond's The Fan District. I envision this to be a space where community comes together through various workshop events and special gatherings. I look forward the making of this space and will be sharing more behind the scenes soon. Stay tuned and follow along on our social.
Thank you for your continued support this year and always.

]]>The feast of Saint Nicholas is a beloved tradition celebrated by many around the world. This holiday, which falls on December 6th, honors the life and miracles of Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of children, sailors, and merchants. One of the most cherished traditions our family has associated with the feast is the tradition of putting shoes under the Christmas tree.
Putting shoes under the Christmas tree is a symbolic gesture that represents the generosity and kindness of Saint Nicholas. According to history, Saint Nicholas would secretly visit houses during the night and leave gifts for children in their shoes. This act of giving is a way to commemorate the saint's compassion and his dedication to helping those in need.
On the eve of Saint Nicholas' feast day, children place their shoes near the Christmas tree, eagerly awaiting the arrival of the saint. In the morning, children wake up to find their shoes filled with small gifts, candies, and sometimes even a small amount of money.
We cherish this tradition for several reasons. We began incorporating it when our oldest, Nikolas was just a toddler. It first began as a tradition to add an element of surprise and excitement to the holiday season while honoring the memory of a beloved saint whom our son was named after. We love the reminder of the importance of generosity and giving, encouraging each one of us to share our blessings with others. Through this tradition, we keep the spirit of Saint Nicholas alive, reminding us of his selflessness and inspiring us to follow in his footsteps.
If you're interested in incorporating the tradition of putting shoes under the Christmas tree into your own celebrations, here are a few simple steps to follow:
By embracing this tradition, you can create lasting memories and teach valuable lessons about kindness, gratitude, and the joy of giving.
The tradition of putting shoes under the Christmas tree serves as a beautiful reminder of Saint Nicholas' generosity and the importance of giving. By incorporating this tradition into your own celebrations, you can honor the saint's legacy and create a meaningful experience for your family.
]]>The holiday season is synonymous with food and family—I combine both by making family recipes. For the past couple of years, I have been obsessed with perfecting my homemade phyllo from scratch. I'll use it when I make our Bougatsa, a crowd-pleasing traditional pastry that transports me right back to Greece. In this blog post, we will guide you through the process of making Bougatsa from scratch, using a cherished family recipe (but with store bought phyllo for a quicker version.) Get ready to indulge in layers of flaky phyllo pastry and a creamy custard filling that will leave you craving for more.
To make the custard for your Bougatsa, you will need the following ingredients:
We will be using one store bought pack of Phyllo.
Now that you have gathered all the necessary ingredients, it's time to start making the custard for your Bougatsa. Follow these simple steps:
Now that your custard is ready, it's time to assemble and bake the Bougatsa. Follow these steps:
There you have it! A homemade Bougatsa that will impress your loved ones and transport them to the flavors of Greece. Serve it warm with a dusting of powdered sugar and a sprinkle of cinnamon for an authentic touch. Enjoy!
]]>1. Athens: Start your journey here
I covered Athens in great detail on part 1 of this three-part series. Since you will most likely fly in and out of Athens, I recommend spending a day or two exploring this amazing city. Click here to read all my recommendation
2. Thessaloniki : Greece's culinary capital
Thessaloniki is known for its vibrant cultural scene, amazing food, archaeological sites and so much more. You can fly here from Athens or from any major European city. While here try the Bougatsa - a custardy cream filling wrapped in phyllo. This is my go to recipe.
3. Meteora : The Land of Monasteries
What makes this a must-visit place is that on top of weathered rock formations, monks have built monasteries which look like they are suspended in the air. Meteora is 145 miles from Thessaloniki which makes this a great place to visit.
4. Delphi : The place for history enthusiasts
Delphi is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It hosts some of the most important archaeological sites of Greece including the Temple of Apollo. If you enjoy history, a visit here is a must.
5. Peloponnese : Locals' favorite beach destination
Peloponnese offers is all. From beautiful beaches, to archaeological sites and castles to ski centers. Foodies will love the many local dishes - including Kalamata olives and olive oils.
6. Zagori Villages : 46 villages tucked in the green mountainside
Known for their traditional architecture with stone houses, paved paths, and roofs with grey tiles. One of the traditional dishes they are famous for are the savory pies made with handmade phyllo (part of the Epirotic cuisine).
7. Epirus : Stunning landscapes
Epirus holds a special place in my heart because is where I come from and where part of my family still lives today. There are many wonderful areas to visit here including Ioannina (a lakeside town with an amazing history), Vikos Gorge (a must visit place if you enjoy hiking).
These destinations are amongst locals favorites. They offer a mix of history, natural beauty, cultural and culinary experiences. While visiting these places, I recommends participating in local experiences such as: attending local markets and seasonal festivals, using public transportation, learning and practicing speaking the Greek language, embracing slow living. Remember the key to exploring like a local is to be open, respectful and willing to immerse yourself in the local way of life. Greeks are some of the friendliest and most hospitable people I know.

Corfu: The Emerald Isle
Corfu, often referred to as the "Emerald Isle," is a lush paradise nestled in the Ionian Sea. The island's unique blend of Greek, Venetian, and British influences is reflected in its architecture, cuisine, and culture. Begin your journey by wandering through the streets of Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where narrow cobbled streets wind through Venetian-style buildings, charming squares, and cozy cafés. For breathtaking panoramic views of the town and sea, make sure to visit the Old Fortress.
Corfu's cuisine is another reflection of its historical influencer. While in Corfu Town, explore local markets to sample olives, cheeses, and spices, and make time to have a taste of the classic pastitsada, a hearty stew featuring local spices and pasta.
Paxos: Tiny Island, Big Heart
Paxi is made of Paxos and Antipaxos, the smallest of the Ionian Islands, known for the quiet beauty and harmonious lifestyle. Accessible only by boat (from Corfu and Igoumenitsa), the island offers a true escape from the hustle and bustle. Gaios, the main port town, serves some breathtaking scenery with its colorful houses lining the waterfront and charming squares shaded by olive trees. We spent 5 amazing days here this past July exploring the coastline by boat and discovering hidden coves, sea caves, and crystal-clear waters perfect for snorkeling and swimming. I highly recommend booking a boat with a skipper to take you around both islands (pictured here is Voutoumi Beach in Antipaxos). To get fully immersed in the island’s fabric, take a drive through the olive groves, inhaling the scent of wildflowers and fresh sea breeze. I promise you’d want to visit this island more than once.
Hydra: Timeless Elegance
Hydra, located in the Saronic Gulf is a place where time seems to stand still. Known for its ban on motorized vehicles, Hydra maintains a unique charm with donkeys and boats as the primary modes of transportation. The architecture of Hydra Town is captivating, showcasing elegant stone mansions and narrow alleyways.
Hydra’s vibrant beauty has been attracting artists and creatives for many years. Make sure to visit one of my favorite local jewelry designers, Elena Votsi. Don’d miss the chance to take a hike up to the Monastery of Profitis Ilias for the most stunning panoramic views of the island.
Zakynthos: Nature's Masterpiece
Zakynthos, known as Zante, is one of the most stunning islands in Greece with some of the most pristine beaches in the entire country. Visit Navagio Beach which is nestled within towering cliffs. The azure waters and white sands make it a postcard-worthy destination. If you’re a marine enthusiast, diving into the Blue Caves is a must-experience activity. These caves are natural formations with stunning shades of blue and turquoise. While in Zakynthos, try some local specialties like bourdeto, a spicy fish stew and mandolato, a sweet nougat treat.
Visit the church of Saint Dionyssios to learn about his life and the miracles he has and continues to perform to this day. Our oldest son had the honor to visit Saint Dionyssios church this summer during his time in Greece and came back with many stories to tell.
Ithaca: Home of Odysseus
Ithaca, known as the home of Odysseus, is made up of peaceful villages, olive groves and pristine beaches. Discover its beautiful landscapes by taking a hiking trip. Visit a local taverna and enjoy dishes like froutalia, a hearty omelette made with potatoes, sausages, and peppers, accompanied by freshly baked bread.
Kefalonia: Nature's Masterpiece
Kefalonia's landscapes range from Myrtos Beach's turquoise waters to Mount Ainos' lush slopes. Don't miss the enchanting Melissani Cave. After a day at the beach, feast on some robola wine, Kefalonia's own creation, while relishing dishes like kreatopita, a savory meat pie that exemplifies the island's hearty fare.
Kefalonia is home to the sacred monastery of Saint Gerasimos, the patron saint of the island. I highly recommend visiting this monastery to gain an understanding of the saint. Visiting the cave he spent most of his life was the highlight of our son’s trip.
While Greece's well-known destinations have their charm, the Ionian Islands offer an opportunity to experience Greece in an authentic way. From exploring the mythic landscapes to enjoying the local cuisine and engaging with warm-hearted locals, these six islands should be on your list of places to visit.

]]>
I am excited to finally share with you the first in a three parts series of the Local’s Guide to Vacationing in Greece. For those of you not familiar with my story, I have strong roots in Greece. I have spent many summers there since the early 90’s and my immediate family lives there now. I will begin the series with the city closest to my heart (for many reasons), Athens. Here is my guide to the best places to stay, eat, visit during your time in this amazing city.
STAY
Athens is a big city and choosing where to stay can be a little daunting when planning your visit for the first time. I recommend a minimum of 2-3 days in the city for a chance to explore some of the best it has to offer. If you wish to be close to the shops and walking distance from many historical sites, stay at the Noble Suites – located close to Acropolis. The elegant neoclassical décor, proximity to many must-see sites and exceptional service, make this hotel our go-to place every time we visit.
I’m from the Mediterranean, so nothing can compare to the sound of the waves and the scent of the sea for me and The Divani Apollon Palace & Thalasson is one of the best places to stay and soak up the sea in the Athenian Riviera.
Speaking of the Athenian Riviera, some of the best beaches are located here. We love going to Astir Beach in Vouliagmeni – located only 15-20 mins outside of the city center. A little further, down the Attic peninsula, you’ll find Lagonissi Beach and Sounion Beach (home to the Temple of Poseidon, Sounion is one of the most popular areas around Athens).
EAT
There are so many wonderful coffee houses, taverns and restaurants in Athens that I had a hard time narrowing it down to the absolute best (in my opinion).
Start your day with a delicious coffee and a savory pie from Sapore in Nea Smirni - I might be biased because this is my sister’s shop but they have the best coffee and service in Athens! If you visit, tell her Vana sent you! For mid-morning snack or an early dinner, check out Louvron in Pagrati – a laid back traditional café with a beautiful and intimate atmosphere (especially in the evening). We’ve enjoyed their tapas style dishes that pair so well with their traditional wines and tsipouro.
For a memorable dinner with a view of the Acropolis, I highly recommend dining at GH Attikos – an outstanding traditional fare on a rooftop terrace. You must make reservations in advance.
Barbounaki is a local’s favorite for seafood dishes located in Plaka. Enjoy a glass of wine in a comfortable outdoor setting...with a side of people watching (IYKYK.
Last but certainly not least, you must must stop by the Ergon House. This foodie boutique hotel is located at the foot of Acropolis. Ergon House is the first of its kind in that it combines a marketplace, a modern-day Agora made up of fresh produce, a butcher, a bakery, a delicatessen and roastery, along with a bar and restaurant which celebrate the best of Greek cuisine culture. For a relaxing experience after visiting Acropolis, enjoy a light fare on their rooftop terrace planted with olive trees.
DO
If there’s one thing you do in Athens, it has to be a visit to Acropolis. Located on a rocky outcrop above the city, Acropolis contains the remains of several ancient buildings of great architectural and historical significance, the most famous being the Parthenon. Also worth checking out is the Acropolis Museum located just around the corner.
If you’re visiting Athens during the summer months, you must attend a live performance at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus theater. If you love history and have a little time, take a drive to Cape Sounio to visit the Temple of Poseidon – you can book a tour or rent a car and make it part of your Athenian Riviera tour.
For a chance to shop some fun Greek handicrafts, handmade jewelry and delicious treats to bring home, you must plan to stop in Monastiraki. A little further is the Plaka neighborhood where you will find charming old narrow streets lines with old and new homes as well as museums, restaurants and cafes.
Looking for a picture-perfect shot? Take a hike up to Lycabettus Hill (the highest spot in Athens) and enjoy some of the most sweeping views of the city. Light a candle at the little white church of St. George. Our family has a tradition of hiking up at the top the last night in town. The view of the city at night is breathtaking.
I hope you found this guide helpful for your visit to Athens. All experiences shared here are my own and I am not being paid or sponsored to include them on this guide. Everything I've shared is safe and recommended to do as a family. Stay tuned for part two, the Local’s Guide to the Greek Islands coming up next.

A : Visually, you can expect to see a slight difference between the two metals. Silver has a grayish-white hue and white gold has a distinctly white shade. We rhodium plate all white gold (this is industry standard) which gives it a much smoother, shinier finish than that of the silver.
A : Many of our customers choose to mix metals. It's totally a personal preference! A few things to note when mixing metals. Silver tarnishes over time whereas 14K gold doesn't. You can wear gold 24/7, swimming, working out, showering, sleeping, without ever worrying of it tarnishing. We suggest mixing various gold colors (like white and yellow, white and rose). Your charms will not "age" the same if you mix silver with gold. But if that detail doesn't bother you, then do mix silver with gold.
A : 14K white gold does not tarnish over time. When worn as a necklace, white gold doesn't need to be re-plated very often, if ever. Industry standard calls for all white gold to be rhodium plated - but this is for new pieces. Same as with your white gold wedding ring, you don't need to re-plate unless you love the white shiny look. If you do, we offer this service in house and would be happy to assist you.
A : This is also a personal preference, but most customers upgrade to either white or yellow gold. White gold will be the closest match (color wise) to silver. You may want to upgrade the color of your necklace all together. In that case, we'd recommend our most popular color, yellow gold.
A : Refer to the graphic above highlighting all the various ways our customers have upgraded their silver charms. Keep in mind you can upgrade your entire necklace or parts of it to 14k gold. If you do so before March 15th, 2023 we are happy to offer you a one time discount code to assist with the upgrade. Reach out to us today to find out how.

The decision to phase out sterling silver as one of the available metals, is one I've felt very strongly about for quite some time now. As our brand continues to evolve so does the quality of our products. It has always been my desire to offer pieces that not only help our customers capture their unique stories now, but they can proudly wear (daily) and pass down to their children and grandchildren one day. I want to focus on offering the very best materials for our products as we continue to elevate them.
Our focus going forward is to remain a small batch custom brand that takes great pride in all aspects of the process, from design to execution - with the end goal of becoming a legacy brand within the jewelry industry. Part of this shift is phasing out sterling silver as a material that no longer reflects our brand standards going forward. What we've seen in the past 15 years of crafting our jewelry pieces is that 14K gold offers the best in durability, sustainability and long term value...all qualities we strive for as a brand.
Why have we offered silver until now? Simply put, we recognize that not everyone has the budget for 14k gold jewelry. We've offered sterling silver as an alternative to the higher price of gold while still keeping the white metal color. Since we offer all three colors of 14K gold (yellow, white and rose) picking white gold is a great option for those who still like white metal.
More than anything we want to be transparent with you, our loyal customers and community! While we've grown a lot since our beginnings in 2008, our focus has always been to serve you in the best way possible. We desire for all our pieces to last you a lifetime, hold their value and remain as beautiful as the day you received them. As we continue to elevate our products, 14K gold (yellow, white and rose) will be the only metal we will offer for the majority of our jewelry products. The last day you can purchase a NEW silver product will be March 1st.
Repeat Customers: If you've ordered a sterling silver product previously and need to order a NEW silver charm, you may add-on to your necklace/bracelet until July 1st via our Add-A-Charm service. After this date, silver will not be available as an option online. Please reach out to us to discuss. You may choose to upgrade to 14k gold (we offer all three colors, yellow, white and rose) starting now through March 15 using a one time discount code - if this is something you're interested in, please reach out to our customer service at info@vanachuppstudio.com to receive next steps.
New Customers: If you've never ordered from us but would like to order a sterling silver product before this option goes away, you have until March 1 to place your order (and until March 15th to send photos for your custom silhouette jewelry).
If you desire to invest in 14K solid gold, but can't afford to pay upfront for the entire cost of the product, we offer the option of monthly payments via Affirm. You may want to take advantage of it!
We've put together a blog post with the Most Asked Questions About Discontinuing Silver. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us! We are always happy to further assist you!
What is heirloom jewelry? Simply put, a family heirloom jewelry piece is a special type of keepsake treasure, most often made of precious metals like gold or silver, that holds sentimental value for a variety of reasons. If you're in the market for a sentimental and long-lasting heirloom jewelry piece, here are five things to consider that can help you decide to move forward with purchasing your very own family heirloom keepsake.
A family heirloom jewelry piece often has a rich history behind it, passed down through multiple generations. Wearing this piece of jewelry allows the wearer to feel a connection to their ancestors and the stories associated with the jewelry. This type of jewelry is often referred to as a "family keepsake," as it holds a special place within the family and is often treasured and passed down from one generation to the next.
Many family heirloom jewelry pieces are given as gifts, often to mark special occasions such as weddings or anniversaries. These pieces symbolize the love and commitment shared between the giver and the recipient.
Family heirloom jewelry can represent and preserve important traditions within a family. For example, a family may have a tradition of passing down a specific piece of jewelry to the firstborn daughter on her 18th birthday. This jewelry becomes a symbol of the family's values and traditions.
For some people, wearing a family heirloom jewelry piece can bring a sense of comfort and security. It can serve as a reminder of loved ones who have passed down the piece and their enduring presence in the wearer's life.
Family heirloom jewelry can serve as a reminder of important life events, such as a wedding or the birth of a child. These pieces become deeply personal and meaningful to the wearer, serving as a tangible reminder of these special moments.
In addition to these reasons, there are many creative ways to incorporate family heirloom jewelry ideas into your daily life. For example, you could use a family heirloom brooch to accessorize a jacket or bag, or wear a family heirloom necklace as a statement piece. Whether it is passed down through the generations or given as a gift, family heirloom jewelry is a special type of keepsake that holds great sentimental value.
At Vana Chupp Studio, we understand the deep sentimental value that a family heirloom jewelry piece holds. These pieces often hold a rich history and are passed down through multiple generations. They serve as a connection to our ancestors and the stories associated with the jewelry.
If you are looking for modern heirloom jewelry, our unique options would surely bring a fresh example of love and commitment, important family traditions, a sense of comfort, and also serve as a reminder of important life events.
If you are considering giving a family heirloom jewelry piece as a gift, we offer a range of beautiful and unique products including our Silhouette Necklaces. These necklaces allow you to showcase a special silhouette, such as a family member or pet, and create a truly personal and meaningful piece of jewelry.
]]>January’s birthstone, garnet, is named after the pomegranate, as its color resembles the red seeds found within the fruit.
Believed to be a source of protection, garnet was used as a talisman during times of war and illness. Healers would place a garnet stone on a wound for its healing powers. Garnet is also said to bring its wearers happiness, good health, confidence, and peace of mind.
Pair this beautiful birthstone with our brand new legacy signet ring, engraved with important initials or a custom design. We love the idea of mimicking garnet’s namesake, the pomegranate, by using several smaller stones to create one statement piece, such as in the birthstone bracelet, featuring all garnet.
There are so many unique ways to update your VCS heirloom with a birthstone that represents special birthdays or anniversaries. Our customers love using our Birthstone Jumprings as a way to add a little color and a lot of meaning to their charms.
Whether you're celebrating a January birthday or anniversary or are just a fan of the stone, we are honored to work with you to create your unique garnet birthstone jewelry. Trust us with your story and allow us to create heirloom pieces you will be proud to wear.

As we approach the end of 2022, I'd like to take a moment to reflect on all we've accomplished this year. I am so proud of our hardworking team and immensely grateful to our customers who trust and support our brand year after year. Here are some of our most noteworthy moments from 2022...
14 Years in Business
In March we celebrated our 14th anniversary! It's humbling to look back at how it all started. I couldn't be more proud of how far we've come as a brand. Serving our amazing community and staying true to our mission is at the core of our existence. We are inspired each day to continue to do our best work and bring about heirloom products that help you celebrate your precious people and tell your unique stories.
Pottery Barn Kids Partnership
We launched our first partnership with Pottery Barn Kids - a collection of our bestselling charms and portraits offered on their online stores as part of a handpicked keepsake product collection. It’s always a dream to know that our creations are loved by so many in our community. It means that what we do brings value to your lives, and when someone comes along and wants to give those pieces a larger home, well, we’re humbled, to say the least.
Bauble Stockings Partnership
This partnership was a labor of love and I couldn't have been more honored to have worked with their team in launching The "Celebration Silhouettes" bauble collection - featuring three holiday themed stockings (“Life As We Know it”, “Sweet Beginnings” and “Forever Together”) designed with life's special moments in mind. We picked Alex's Lemonade as the organization of choice to donate 10% of profits - in an effort to raise funds for impactful research to help cure childhood cancer. With your support, we were able to donate over $5K as part of our Giving Back mission.
The Legacy Collection
Ever since I started my company, I've dreamed of creating beautiful products that help women capture special moments in their lives be in their motherhood journey, life's special milestones or curating a beautiful jewelry collection. In the recent years I've had the privilege to work closely with customers who have trusted me with the design of some very special pieces. Inspired by these experiences, I designed our first Legacy pieces. I am looking forward to adding new products to this collection in 2023.
In-Person Connections
2022 was the year of in-person connections - both with our local customers (new and existing) and small businesses. I have come to realize how important these connections have been for me personally but also for our team. Running an online business has its benefits but it often leaves us feeling disconnected from the people we're serving. We felt an immense joy inviting local customers in our showroom through in-person shopping events. We look forward to more interactions with our community in 2023.
Looking Ahead at 2023...
After a year of learning, growing and fine tuning our processes, we look forward to focus on what we do best. In the year ahead we're excited to continue elevating our brand and offer the best (service and product) to our customers. In 2023 we are making some changes and releasing some incredible new products that we've been working on for some time now and look forward to share with you soon!
Thank you for your support this year! We couldn't do it without you.

]]>October features two beautiful gemstones, opal and pink tourmaline, giving those celebrating a fall birthday or anniversary a lovely choice when it comes to crafting their jewelry.
Opal
Opal is thought to have originated in India where it is called “upala” in Sanskrit, meaning “a precious stone.” Its flashes of color produce a unique and elusive kaleidoscope, often compared to galaxies, fireworks, and lightning.
The opal is a symbol of hope and has long been associated with luck—both good and bad. Spiritually, opal symbolizes purity and truth. It’s also considered to have seductive qualities, amplifying emotions, releasing inhibitions, and promoting passion. Romans believe it was the most powerful gemstone and a symbol of love, called the Cupid Stone.
Celebrate your October birthday, anniversary, or honor a loved one with opals in a dainty stacking ring set and birthstone dome earrings for an effortless everyday look. Please note that opals are one of the most delicate gemstones and will benefit from a little extra care.
Pink Tourmaline
Pink tourmaline means “stone of mixed colors.” Unlike the opal, which displays several colors within the same stone, individual tourmaline gemstones come in an array of colors. Specifically, pink tourmaline has recently been accepted as October’s birthstone.
Representing humanitarianism, pink tourmaline is also associated with compassion, unconditional friendship, and can be worn by those striving for long-lasting relationships. Often recommended for healers, pink tourmaline’s properties promote understanding and better listening.
Pink tourmaline is an excellent gemstone for everyday wear. Because of this, our community embraces pink tourmaline in loose charms adorning bracelets, fixed onto our falling letters pendants, and as a simple and stunning solitaire necklace.
Vana Chupp Studio is proud to feature birthstone gemstones and jewelry for all of your birthday and anniversary gifts. Opal and pink tourmaline are equally meaningful and we look forward to working with you as you tell your story through heirloom jewelry and accessories.
I've always been a sentimental person. I have a few little mementos that I love to occasionally look through...they bring me back to different times in my life and stir up emotions and memories...and help me remember events I may otherwise have forgotten.
When I think of ways to preserve a memory (besides photographs of course), I can't help but think of jewelry as a perfect way to commemorate something special you are reminded of daily. I've always been drawn to jewelry with a story and over the past years I've designed pieces that help our customers tell their unique stories and keep memories close.
Although all of our pieces are designed around people and stories, there are a few that stand out as "Memory Keepers". The first product that comes to mind, is our Silhouette Locket. Designed to keep 1 and up to 8 silhouettes of your favorite people inside. But not only that! You can request special messages to be engraved besides or instead of silhouettes. Lockets have been around for generations and are the epitome of a memory keeper.
Speaking of memories, we wouldn't be talking about them them without considering the people that help make them. Our silhouette charms capture the memory of loved ones (from babies to pets and anything in between) as they freeze a special moment in time.
As the saying goes, words are more powerful than actions and often times all we have to work with. I can't think of a more unique way to not only keep the memories, but also wear them close to our heart than with one of our Handwriting Medallions. They help turn a memory into a beautiful talisman to keep us grounded, heal and empower us.
Our jewelry is by its very nature a memory keeper - mostly beautiful, happy memories filled with love and joy but also others that could crush your heart into a million pieces. However, I've discovered despite the story behind the piece there's always one common thread that brings people to shop the Vana Chupp Studio jewelry: keeping the special memories close. Forever. And knowing that's what we set to do every single day, has been my greatest joy!
]]>Sapphire generally refers to the rich, deep blue gemstone, but did you know they can be found in any color of the rainbow? The only exception is red, since sapphires are corundum gems and the red variety of corundum is a ruby, July’s birthstone.
September’s birthstone has a long association with royalty. In fact, one of the best-known modern sapphires is the 12 ct sapphire engagement ring first worn by Princess Diana and later given to Kate Middleton by Prince William.
Sapphires symbolize truth, nobility, integrity, faithfulness, and sincerity, and many, including the people of ancient Greece and Rome, believe blue sapphires protect them from envy, physical harm, and negative intentions. Priests and clerics consider sapphires to be incredibly spiritual.
Harder than almost every other gemstone, second only to diamonds, Sapphires are a durable and excellent choice for everyday wear. Because of this, we love to see our community members embrace their birthstone in their heirloom jewelry. Our pieces are designed to be worn every day and, when a birthstone such as sapphire is included, you can count on the longevity of your piece, with regular care.
Our team proudly creates solitaire stacking rings, fixed silhouette + birthstone necklaces, birthstone charm bracelet with up to 8 birthstones, and many more ways to embrace your September sapphire birthstone in your timeless heirloom jewelry.

Today we are talking all things metals! Which metals we use on our products, why we do so and most importantly which metal is right for you. Our goal is to inform you about the qualities of each metal so you can make an educated decision when it comes to choosing the metal for your next piece.
At Vana Chupp Studio we use 14K solid gold (yellow, white and rose) and sterlium plus for the majority of our jewelry collection and gold filled for a small locket selection. We also use brass from our Silhouette and Home Ornaments.
Our decision to use these metals is one we've come to not by accident but after many years of working with them to ensure the final product is heirloom quality and will stand the test of time. Over the years we've had to discontinue certain metals that didn't live up to our expectations. Our goal is not only to design beautiful, meaningful jewelry but also to ensure all our pieces stand up beautifully to daily wear.
14k solid gold is a beautiful metal that adds not only value to our pieces (gold is one of the most valuable resources in the world and its value only goes up with time) but it also makes them truly heirloom quality. Solid gold jewelry doesn't tarnish and if cared for properly, it will last you a very long time. Our pieces are meant to be worn daily, treasured and be passed down to the future generations.
Sterlium plus is a sterling silver alloy that is great to work with and offers strength and re-usability (which is very important for us as we recycle any metal scrap left over from cutting). Sterlium is resistant to tarnish and maintains a bright white color (an upgrade from sterling silver which will tarnish over time). Since it contains no nickle, this metal is a great choice for those with sensitivity to nickel.
Gold filled is a great option for those who love the look and feel of solid gold but are looking for a more economical option. We use this metal only on select Silhouette Lockets due to its limiting qualities. We no longer use gold filled on our charms and medallions (you can read more about the decision to discontinue it here).
There is often some confusion when it comes to the term "solid gold" and I wanted to explain in more dept what it means. Solid gold is often referred to as "real gold" and a number followed by k (for karat) which refers to the purity of gold. This might be more information than you're asking for, but the purest form of gold is 24 karat (aka 100% gold). 24K gold is very yellow and soft in texture...too soft to actually use in jewelry. To make it stronger, gold is mixed with alloys which are other durable metals like zinc, copper, silver or nickel. We use 14K gold which is 14/24 parts pure gold (58% pure) and the rest (42%) is a blend of metals (aka alloys - which is also what gives the color white, yellow or rose to the gold).
Gold filled is a lot more economical compared to solid gold and is made by bonding a layer of gold to a base metal (such as brass or silver). Unlike solid gold, Gold filled will wear off, exposing the base metal underneath. Gold filled jewelry has a limited life span (with proper care it will last a while but not nearly compared to solid gold) and repairing or restoring the gold color is rather difficult and often involves "plating" as a temporary solution
There are prons and cons to all types of metals, but Solid Gold is what I'd recommend because of how durable, valuable and least irritating it is to those with allergies to base metals. If you are looking for a piece you can wear 24/7, I highly recommend investing in solid gold. Sterlium is a great metal in that is durable and a lot less expensive but it does have some limitations when it comes to wearing it 24/7 (showing, swimming etc) because it can react to various elements and begin to tarnish.
Investing in meaningful heirloom jewelry is something we are very passionate about. By definition, heirloom is a valuable object that has been in a family for generations. We believe creating your own heirloom piece to be passed down is incredibly meaningful and choosing the right metal is probably the most important part of the process.

Peridot is a sparkling lime green gemstone created deep in the Earth’s mantle and brought to the surface by volcanic activity. Hawaiians consider peridot to be the Goddess Pele’s tears, while Egyptians named peridot “Gem of the Sun” and believe it to have healing properties and offer protection from nightmares.
Sometimes called Evening Emerald, peridot looks great day or night and always keeps its vibrant color. Peridot is one of the few gems that comes in one color, however its bright green shade can vary from yellow-green to olive green.
Wear peridot to celebrate your August birthday, a loved one’s birthday, or for your 16th wedding anniversary. Peridot helps to alleviate anxiety and resentment while bringing harmony and peace to your relationships.
We love how versatile and inherently meaningful birthstone jewelry is. From solitaire stacking rings to loose charms beautifully intertwined in a statement necklace to an accent gem on Falling Letters and much more, there’s no wrong way to show your love for peridot or an important August date.
