What’s in a name | The Subway Art Important Dates Print

May 23, 2013

I am starting a new blog series where I describe how a certain product/design came to be. In this first post I am talking about one of our bestseller fine art prints, the Subway Art Important Dates print.

When I start a new design I always put myself in the mind of the customer – in this case a young couple in love. The Subway Art Important Dates print came to be as the result of a custom request. The customer requested if I had a way to represent the life of a relationship in silhouette form. I had to stop and think about all the stages of a relationship and quickly start to illustrate them. In this particular case, the couple met at a party. The man was holding a spaghetti pot that served as beverage receptacle and the woman (who later would become his wife) had a surprised look on her face, sort of like “what the heck is that?!” This sweet story set the stage for the first illustration which marks the date they first met.

They exchanged a kiss a couple of months later. He proposed a few years later and they said “I DO” 2 years after that. I love that they used this print to commemorate their love story in such unique form. Of course, he gave this print to her on their 1 year wedding anniversary! C’est l’amour!!

If you have a story you would like us to illustrate, get in touch! We would love to turn those special moments into one of a kind art form.
