INSPIRATION | food for the 4th

July 02, 2010

Hello, It’s me Callie Grayson!
I hope you all have wonderful plans for this holiday weekend! I am excited for the long weekend and all the tasty food that comes along for the 4th of July!
When I was a kid, my family always had huge family bbq’s for the 4th! and now that I am older I miss making homemade ice cream……. you know that machine you turned by hand with rock salt around the edges. mmmmm nothing better than home made vanilla ice cream.
Well, at one of my favorite food blogs I found this recipe
“Grilled Peaches, Poached Cherries and Vanilla Bean Ice Cream”
how can that not be good! I will need to be making this soon!

Another favorite of mine is watermelon!
big huge slabs of the juicy fruit or just a big bowl filled with perfect little bits to pick up with my fingers {much to my mum horror! she can’t stand it when I use my fingers, ha!} sprinkled with a bit of salt to pull the flavors forward or sprinkle with a bit of fennel seeds… trust me on this! tasty!!

I love summer and the 4th is the day of all days to eat such yummy, healthy foods!
What foods will you be preparing for your celebrations? What are you favorite summer food memories?

Happy Weekend!
xx
