Inspiration :: Guest Post by The TomKat Studio

Today’s guest post comes from a person very dear to me. Her story has touched my heart and inspired me to keep doing what I love – because in doing so I will inspire others to do the same. Give it up for the fabulous Kim of TomKat Studio.

I am honored that Vana has asked me to guest post on her blog. About a year and half ago, one of my dear friends sent me a thank you gift for creating party goods for her son’s birthday. It was a framed art print by none other than Le Papier Studio. The print is a vision of two silhouettes, a young boy blowing bubbles, while his sister sits next to him with a little birdie on her toe. The boy….my now 4 year old, Tommy and the girl, my now 3-year old Kate. (TomKat) It was honestly such a touching gift and I ran around the house giddy about where to hang it. I immediately had to find out WHO created such beauty, and discovered our dear Vana. It was my very first visit to Etsy ever. Upon arrival at Vana’s shop, I was astonished by her work and excited about this whole new handmade world I had stumbled upon. I can truly say that this event has changed my entire life. My world is completely different since that day!

I had been working in real estate successfully for nearly eight years, but with the market decline paired with having my babies, I made the decision to stay home. Kids grow up so quickly and it was perfect timing. Once I was home, I decided to start a blog about the creative projects I was working on. {December 2008} Readers started asking if they could purchase the things I was creating, including frames and invitations. I decided the next step would be to open my own Etsy shop {March 2009}. Since then, it has been a whirlwind….my business is booming. My work has been recognized by some of the very people that inspire me. I couldn’t be happier doing what I love, while being able to be home with my children. I blog for Project Nursery, as well as HomeGoods and now, here I am…guest blogging for the very person who inspired me to get back to being creative. And I couldn’t be more thankful.

I promised Vana that I would share my new living room/studio with you today (my readers haven’t even seen it yet!) We recently sold our last home fully furnished and so I have been keeping busy trying to remodel, decorate and furnish our new home. We decided to have our living room double as my studio space, and therefore I had the freedom to decorate it how ever my heart desired. My heart desires PINK. Everytime I walk by this room, I smile.

The focal point of the room is the collage wall. I had so much fun figuring out the best pieces to create the collage. Vana’s gorgeous silhouette print fit perfectly!

You are probably wondering…how is this my studio space? Well, hidden in the corner is my favorite piece of furniture, my armoire! It was the only piece of furniture that I refused to sell when we sold our home. It’s huge and perfect for my printers and supplies!

Thank you for taking the time to get to know me. I look forward to getting to know you and hope to bring you some fabulous inspiration, as Vana has done for me. ~ Kim
