Putting things into perspective

August 03, 2009

Tonight I had some time to catch up on a few of my favorite blogs and as I was reading the latest post on Zen Habits – simple productivity I couldn’t help but ask myself some questions.

How is what I am doing on my daily basis effecting my family?
If there were a couple of things I could change to better the situation I am in, what would they be?
Where would I be in five years from now? What am I doing to get there?

All these are questions I ask myself every time I get a moment to slow down and think but only tonight was I brave enough to write down the answers. I like to think I have everything under control but the truth is I don’t. I waste much valuable time checking my email continuously. I have a hard time prioritizing things and sticking with a schedule. As a result I end up working very late at night and feeling exhausted the next morning. Question is: how do I better my situation? What do I need to do on daily basis to get there?

I wrote down the first thoughts that came to mind:

1. Make a list the night before prioritizing what needs to be done the next day
2. Check my email only three times a day (morning, noon and before heading to bed)
3. Get on Twitter and Facebook only once a day (I was tempted to say once every other day, but i know I won’t stick with it)
4. Spend quality time with my son in the morning (this will change once school starts but I can make the most of it until than)
5. Have a date night with my hubs once a month
6. Make dinner every night and enjoy a few hours with my family by doing something together rather than getting back to work as soon as dinner is over.
7. Arrange something fun to do on weekends and keep away from working.
8. Make time to pray.

Writing them down was easy but keeping to my plan will be a challenge. I have to say though, it feels good to be able to look into myself and try putting my life into perspective. If I need some things to change I am the one responsible to make it happen.

Doses of Spring

May 07, 2009

Today the little guy and I took a walk…

We played at the park..
ate donuts from our favorite bakery..
..and enjoyed the slow morning (God knows how much I need this!!)

What a gorgeous weather we’re having today! I hope it lasts!

I already feel rejuvenated. Off to enjoy some cooled treats with Niko. Hope you like these images we took today ( I say ‘we’ because they were a collaboration of Niko and I – well mostly I but you get the idea:)

Comfy corners

November 18, 2008

I don’t know about you, but I love comfy corners…spots in my home that make me happy. This morning I took advantage of the sunlight (which I adore) and snapped pictures of a couple of spots around my house that make me smile. Here they are:

throw pillows as the morning rays of sun lay upon them….

my honey and I back in our college days…I love displaying our photographs around the house, including our bathrooms. That sun again…

I am a sucker for freshly made bed..freshly ironed linens…I love to look at it as i walk by or crawl in for an afternoon nap.

I love this reading corner in our bedroom…the watercolor drawing is of my hometown (part of my graduate thesis study). Looking at it reminds me of my home growing up. I am still thinking of a better way to display it.

Lastly (but not least) my sweet Niko’s toes…I love to kiss them and tickle them.

Thanks for coming along on my short tour. What is one thing, spot, that you love about your home. Would you care to share?

Thursdays are for you and me.

May 15, 2008

As I mentioned on a previous post, I have started going into the office to work a couple of half days a week. This allows me to get my work done without interruption from the little guy but also plan my week better. Before, I would work pretty much all day to try to get in the hours I needed. But since I started selling on Etsy, I found myself juggling too many things at once. So far this is working well for us. I was able to find a couple of friends to watch him during the days I go in.

On top of this, I have been busy with new orders and marketing my work. If I have learned one thing from starting my own custom stationery business, is that you can’t just dedicate a couple of hours of your day, it pretty much takes up most of it without you knowing it.

But enough with work…
Today is Thursday! Thursdays are for Niko and I to play, eat, laugh and snuggle. On Thursdays we try to catch up on our story telling, walks to the park, visiting friends and naps together.

We do a good job at having fun and keeping each other happy….

But mainly, we never forget those hugs and kisses….ah those kisses, and….the chocolate snacks…
How can you have enough of these? How can you say “goodbye, see you next week” to a day like this?!!! I feel days like this can go on forever and I wouldn’t complain (I think…).

“I have a secret tell you, Nikolas. I am not quite ready for preschool to start! I know, I know…I have been raving about how much free time I will have and what I would be doing first. But the truth is, I am not ready for you to grow up just yet! Am I a selfish Mama? May be so! But all I can say is that I will miss you and that stinky face of yours for those 3 l o n g hours away from you! In the meantime, let’s enjoy today…..with all its moments!

………………….yes I know you made a mess, I know you smeared chocolate on my fine, white linens, but it’s ok! I love you and I know you will do better tomorrow!

Mama”

Happy Monday!

April 28, 2008

Happy Monday everyone!
We have been all sick but despite that we have enjoyed the weekend!
Aaron was home on Friday so we had a super long weekend together filled with church services and celebration. Christ is Risen!!!!

We celebrated Easter this Sunday and couldn’t possibly have had a better time spent with friends.
I am happy to say that I did absolutely nothing work related this weekend (well besides cooking a couple of dishes) and I truly enjoyed that. I get so busy working on my new business that I just forget to spend time with my loved ones. None of that this weekend! We rested, ate good food, played, colored and enjoyed spending time together.

I have been searching on creative ways to frame my Silhouette Prints.
Look what I came across to this morning….

This one is by artist Stephanie Nielson….I just love her work. Look how clean her style is! And look at those frames, priceless, classic yet modern….Oh, I got me inspired again!

These cool silhouette are by artist Karl Johnson……
(images are from cookiemag.com)

On a post note, I am giving away another Free gift on my Etsy: with every purchase of 2 of any Stationery set, you get a set of 24 stickers in matching design (for free). This gift is on top of the “FREE print with any order for the next 10 coming orders” (only available to my blog readers – so please mention this on the “comments to seller”).
Hurry everyone, it’s only good for this week!!!

I GOT ME SOME ENERGY….

April 24, 2008

I went to visit a chiropractor (or as he would refer to himself, a “fake doctor”) last night. He is a friend from church and I had been wanting to make an appointment for the longest time. I am one of those people who hates doctors, hospitals, and I don’t go unless I have too (that is, unless I am dieing – ha!). So in an attempt to avoid prescribed medication, I visited a holistic doctor…..

He did whatever those type of doctors do, he checked my muscles for reflexes and questioned me on my diet. He even discovered that the right side of my body is off…go figure; he showed me in the mirror that my one shoulder was higher than the other. I blamed the type of work I do and the long hours sitting in front of the computer…who knows.

After getting my neck and back adjusted (never had that done before) I was given some dietary supplements to take on daily basis and he promised (i like that) that I would be feeling much more energetic in the next couple of weeks.
I know a friend of mine uses a chiropractor and she is very happy with him. Any of you who have a similar story to tell? I would love to hear your thoughts on this (I am supposed to visit him on weekly basis for a month)

On a different note, here is what has been selling a lot on my ETSY SHOP.

My clients have asked me to customize their prints by converting pictures of their little ones into silhouettes. I love this idea!

I have started taking pictures of the prints on frames. I think it helps with visualizing them better. What do you all think?

Enjoy Spring everyone!
